Profenofos is a cholinesterase inhibitor. The separate optical isomers, due to the chiral phosphorus atom, show different types of insecticidal activity and the ability to inhibit acetylcholinesterase.

• It is a broad-spectrum insecticide having contact and stomach action.
• It is compatible with most of the commonly used pesticides except those of alkaline materials.
• Likewise, it is a foliar insecticide with acaricidal properties for use in action.
• It is synergistic inactivity, especially in situations where some resistance to organophosphate and or synthetic pyrethroid, insects has developed.
• It has an excellent translaminar effect and is readily absorbed in plant cells thus not affected by rainfall.
